Our Mission

The IIoT Grid Sensor Initiative drives research, development, commercialization, and manufacturing of a new smart sensor platform designed for grid outage mitigation. 10 individual sensor functions are being developed for transmission, distribution and underground applications. Sensors will have the ability to communicate and integrate with one another in single or separate sensor packages. The group has received grant funding in excess of $3 million dollars which is coupled with investments from utilities and commercial interests. The University of Akron and technology manufacturer, Exacter, Inc. of Columbus, OH are leading the development and collaboration between utility industry executives, researchers, commercialization specialists, and manufacturers.
